Monarch Butterflies

I created this painting of Monarch Butterflies live at the 2015 Walk and Roll Fundraiser event for the South Niagara Life Centre, with a few finishing touches completed back at the studio later on. I used reference photos that I took recently while out on the Friendship Trail. The finished 16x20" painting is available for a suggested donation of $250 to the centre, or $300 with the frame included. Please click here to purchase online.  Shipping is available - please contact Melani Pyke or the South Niagara Life Centre to make arrangements.

Butterflies are a delight for their bright patterns and colours, and delicate wings, and I love how they start out as caterpillars and then turn into something completely different. God takes us in the caterpillar stage, and when we allow him, transforms us into something new and beautiful, just as when a butterfly emerges from the cocoon. It's not always an easy; the butterfly has to struggle to get out of that cocoon, but needs to go through that process in order to have the strength to survive and fly. The struggles we go through in life help us to develop character as well as compassion for others going through similar struggles.

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit." (2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NIV)

Carmel Art Festival A Success!

I enjoyed a wonderful rainy weekend indoors at the Carmel Fine Art & Music Festival! It was fun to meet up with old artist friends and share my inspirational original oil paintings with visitors to the show. I had a lot of space at my booth to showcase new artwork and bring out some old favourites, too!

As I have at most of my recent art shows, I brought my easel and blank canvases. Here are the brand new Melani Pyke paintings that I came up with this weekend:
